Croke Park 'like Tennessee' as Garth Brooks fans arrive for first gig

The surrounding areas of Croke Park were likened to Tennessee tonight as throngs of country music fans gathered for the first of Garth Brooks' five gigs.

The area has been very busy since this morning as the Friends In Low Places singer prepared to perform to an Irish crowd for the first time in 25 years.

Passersby reported a lot of a Stetsons in the area and said Drumcondra was "like Tennessee". One person said on Twitter: "Felt like I was back living in Tennessee earlier driving through Drumcondra, cowboy boots, hats the lot, Garth Brooks is some man."

Another wrote: "The amount of Stetsons I passed on my way home to Drumcondra tonight would make you want one!"

A third said: "Coors Light, cowboy boots, brown shoes, brown belts and big hats - Drumcondra right now."

Those travelling to the gigs over the next two weekends have been asked to plan their journey to and from Croke Park, as there is only one car park close to the venue that holds 400 cars, and traffic restrictions will be in place near the venue. People aged under 14 will not be allowed on to the standing/pitch area, and bags must be less than an A4 size and will be searched on the way into the venue.

Attendees are also asked to double-check the date on their tickets and are reminded that the show starts at 7.30pm, with gates open from 5pm. Croke Park bosses said the cut-off point for Brooks to be off stage is 10.30pm but he will be ready to perform at 7.30pm, suggesting each show will last almost three hours each night.
