Drugs sniffer dogs help smash £30,000 cannabis farm on remote Scots island

Cops have smashed a £30,000 cannabis farm on a remote Scots island after help from sniffer dogs.

Officers from Police Scotland swooped on a house on the island of Eday, Orkney, at around 9am on Thursday, December 17.

During the operation where they seized cannabis plant worth an estimated £30k they were helped by the charity Orkney Drugs Dog.

A four figure sum of cash and equipment relating to the supply of drugs was also taken from the property.

Following the raid a 57-year-old man was arrested and charged.

He is due at Kirkwall Sheriff Court at a later date.

Chief Inspector Matt Webb, of Kirkwall Police Station, said: “This significant recovery demonstrates our ongoing commitment to disrupting the supply of drugs in our local communities.

“We will continue to target those individuals who cause misery to others through the sale of controlled drugs and we will work relentlessly using all resources at our disposal to ensure they are brought to justice.”

A full report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
