Drugs search in Hamilton home uncovered £12,000 cash

Police searching for drugs found more than £12,000 in cash in the drawer of a table.

They also seized cannabis worth around £7,000 from Craig McDougall's Hamilton home.

McDougall, 30, of Townhill Road, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.

He admitted being concerned in the supply of the Class B drug on December 19, 2019.

The court heard there was no one at home when the officers turned up with a search warrant at 11.10am.

Mairi-Clare McMillan, prosecuting said: "There was a strong smell of cannabis and the officers waited for the dog unit to attend.

"The accused's mother and sister then attended. The accused was spoken to on the phone, but declined to go to the house."

Herbal material was found in bags and tubs throughout the property. Scales and small bags were also seized.

Sheriff Ray Small ordered confiscation of £12,460 in mixed notes found in a living room table drawer.

The sheriff deferred sentence until next month for reports and told McDougall, who remains on bail: "You have a previous conviction for a similar offence, but it was some time ago.

"I have a completely open mind about this case. I'll wait to see what the criminal justice social work report says and then decide on the sentence to be imposed."
