Five senior police officers, including the chief of Ban Somdet Chao Phraya police station, have been transferred to inactive posts after a drugs party was held in their jurisdiction.
A predawn raid by a police task force on the ID4 pub near Lat Yai Soi 6 on Saturday reportedly found crystal methamphetamine and ketamine littering the floor of the venue which was packed with 370 partygoers. Sixty-two tested positive for drug use.
Two Somdet Chao Phraya police officers are believed to have guarded the pub while three colleagues kept a lookout for any signs of an impending raid.
The event prompted city police chief Pol Lt Gen Chanthep Sesawet to sign an order transferring the five officers yesterday.
They are Ban Somdet Chao Phraya police chief Pol Col Anurak Yotprasit, his two deputies -- Pol Lt Col Wutthichai Sukhonthawit and Pol Lt Col Natthachak Bunyarat -- and two police inspectors -- Pol Lt Col Sanguan Rueangfang and Pol Lt Col Narongchai Ekkachan.
Their posts have been temporarily filled by five officers appointed by Metropolitan Police Division 8 chief Pol Maj Gen Samrit Tongtao.
In another development, the Metropolitan Police Bureau has reprimanded and put 30 officers who queued up to receive ang pao Chinese New Year gift money from an unidentified man last month on probation. The probe concluded that the matter was a "small offence" which violated an order on appropriate behaviour from their commander.
