A WOMAN has been charged with drug and driving offences after police located cannabis and an electronic stun device in Newcastle over the weekend.

Shortly after 1am on Saturday police officers from Operation Utah were travelling north along the Newcastle Inner City Bypass at Birmingham Gardens when they stopped a red Holden Clubsport.

Police spoke with the 25-year-old female driver and conducted a search of the vehicle.

During the search, police seized cannabis, an electronic stun device, drug paraphernalia and a liquid substance believed to be gamma-Butyrolactone (GBL). The liquid will undergo further testing.

Police will also allege the vehicle was stolen earlier in the month from a Moree address, and that the number plates displayed were stolen.

The woman was arrested and taken to Waratah police station where she was charged with possess prohibited drug, possess prohibited weapon, goods in personal custody suspected being stolen and drive conveyance taken without consent of owner.

She was granted conditional bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Thursday December 17.
