Drugs charity warning as young people admitted to hospital

A drugs charity has issued a warning after overdoses were linked to prescription drug Pregabalin.

Charity Extern says it “has received the following information about the drug Pregabalin in the Derry area ”.

In a post on their Facebook page, they add: “Pregabalin is circulating in the Derry area at present which has resulted in unintentional OD incidents with 4 young people requiring hospital admissions. The Pregabalin is reported to have a signature on the pack, 300mg tablets, which are smaller than the prescribed medication. Apparently there is a delay in effect.”

Pregabalin, also known as Lyrica, is used to treat epilepsy and anxiety and is also taken to treat nerve pain.
