Drugs bust on M8 as £100k of heroin found in car pulled over by police near Harthill

A man has been charged after cops stopped a car on the M8 and discovered £102,000 worth of heroin.

Around 2.30pm on Thursday, 12 May, Police Scotland officers, acting on intelligence, pulled over a Ford car on the M8 near Harthill.

The drugs, believed to be heroin, have an estimated street value of £102.000.

A 65-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the recovery.

He was due before Hamilton Sheriff Court yesterday.

A report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal.

Cops have praised the 'significant' operation and have assured the public that they will use 'every resource and tactic' to disrupt drug crime in Scots streets.

Detective Inspector Laura Sands of Lanarkshire Division said: “This was a significant drugs recovery that has taken £102,000 worth of drugs off the streets of Scotland.

“Serious and organised crime brings misery to those living in our local communities and I want to reassure the public that we will continue to use every resource and tactic at our disposal to disrupt this kind of activity and stop these illegal substances reaching our streets.

“We rely on the support of the public, so if you have any information or concerns about drugs in your community, please contact us through 101.

"Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 11, where anonymity can be maintained.”
