Drugs and firearms seized following three-day garda operation in Ballymun

Drugs, cash and firearms have been seized by gardai following a three-day search operation in Ballymun.

Gardai searched 14 houses under warrant and arrested 14 men during the operation which commenced on Monday and ended today.

The arrested men range from 16 to 30 years of age.

Suspected cannabis and cocaine, estimated to be worth over €40,000, as well as over €14,000 in cash. Two cars and a scrambler were also seized during the raids.

Two firearms and a quantity of ammunition were seized in a follow up operation.

A garda spokeswoman said investigations into the incident are ongoing.

She said: "As part of a search operation in Ballymun which commenced on Monday 20th May, 2019 and concluded today, Thursday 23rd May, 2019 by Gardaí attached to the 'H' District Drugs unit assisted by members from the Division a total of 14 houses were searched under warrant and 14 males were arrested.

"During the course of the three day operation, targeting street dealers in Ballymun, cannabis herb and cocaine was seized with an estimated street value of €42,000 (subject to analysis) and over €14,000 in cash was seized.  Two cars and a scrambler motorcycle were also seized."

The arrested men were all detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Twelve men were charged and are before the courts while were released and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
