Drugged up driver arrested after crashing into kerb trying to avoid COVID-19 checkpoint

A drugged up driver was arrested after crashing into a kerb while trying to avoid a COVID-19 checkpoint in west Dublin.

The thoughtless motorist tested positive for a cocktail of drugs, including while on cocaine, opiates and benzos.

Gardai had placed a social distancing checkpoint at the N3 outbound near Blanchardstown when a vehicle approached them.

The driver struck the kerb trying to avoid the checkpoint but was stopped by gardai and tested for narcotics.

Pictures show several squad cars and a motorbike surrounding the vehicle after it tried to evade the checkpoint.

The driver was tested on the Drager 5000, which can test saliva for various forms of substances at the scene in minutes.

The test took place late last night, at the J4 outbound interchange.

Gardai said: “At 11.45 a vehicle approaching members on the overpass struck the kerb, was then stopped by members and the driver was required to provide oral fluid sample.

“Drager 5000 test positive for 3 out of 4 classes of drug. Driver arrested and conveyed to Blanchardstown Garda Station for a Blood Sample.”
