Drug smuggling doctor to have medical suspension reviewed

A shamed doctor convicted of smuggling prescription pills will have her fitness to practice reveiewed.

Dr Katy McAllister was suspended after being caught illegally importing more than 2,000 tablets into the country.

She thought she was buying class-A narcotics, but was in fact duped by her Indian supplier and given over-the-counter medication like paracetamol, ibuprofen and hay fever pills.

The Glaswegain medic, was living and working in Dundee when the parcels were intercepted in 2017 and she was arrested.

She was sentenced to 210 hours of unpaid work at the city's sheriff court in January this year.

McAllister was cleared in 2017 of killing a friend by giving her a cocktail of painkillers.

The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service will review her suspension when it meets on June 15.
