Drug peddlers were 'knowing participants' in huge underworld cocaine conspiracy

The final two people were jailed today in connection with a huge drugs bust uncovered last year .

Dale Redrobe and Zac Edgar both pleaded guilty to being involved in the drugs conspiracy operated by Warrington-based gang leader Jamie Oldroyd, who moved cocaine to London, Manchester, Scunthorpe and Carlisle.

He was eventually busted through the  Cheshire Police  probe Operation Dreadnought, which took down him and more than a dozen of his underworld associates.

Today Redrobe, 30, of Swanside Road, Huyton , and Edgar, 24, of Jackson Road, Scunthorpe, appeared in court to be sentenced for their role in the operation.

Nicola Daley, prosecuting, said that Redrobe was a "direct associate" of Oldroyd and was caught after a small bag of cocaine was passed from Oldroyd to him in the car park of Asda's Birchwood store, to be delivered to a third party.

Redrobe's role was to drive cars associated with Oldroyd's car rental firm.

In reality, Oldroyd was overseeing a multi-million pound Class A drugs gang.

Ms Daley said Redrobe's part in the drugs conspiracy "furnished him with an awareness of the nature and scale of Jamie Oldroyd's business."

Zac Edgar, on the other hand, played a much larger role, ferrying cocaine from the Warrington "safehouse" to his native Scunthorpe for onward distribution.

Jonathan Duffy, representing Redrobe, said he had made "a catastrophic error of judgement in involving himself in a serious crime on a limited basis and for a limited period of time."

Mr Duffy added that Redrobe had struggled with his mental health and had made two suicide attempts before committing these offences.

Cheryl Mottram, representing Edgar, said the dad-of-two had got himself into financial difficulties and he "foolishly took what he thought was the easy way out."

At Liverpool Crown Court today, Judge Robert Trevor-Jones jailed Edgar for six years and three months for his part in the conspiracy, and Redrobe for a total of 21 months.
