Drug driving arrest after man smashes into car and traffic lights in police chase

A suspected drug driver crashed into a parked car and then spiralled into a set of traffic lights after a police officer attempted to stop him.

Emergency services were called to Kensington at about 11.40pm last night after a patrol car tried to stop a Vauxhall Astra.

Officers said the car failed to stop and drove off into a residential estate.

The driver then crashed into a parked stationary car on Channel Road.

He then hit a traffic signal at the junction of Robson Street and Sleepers Hill, in Anfield.

Dramatic photos from the scene show fire crews in attendance as a damaged car can be seen in the middle of the road.

A spokeswoman for the police confirmed a 36-year-old was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop and drug driving

The spokeswoman said: "At around 11.40pm last night, Wednesday 24 th June, a patrol attempted to stop a Vauxhall Astra in Kensington.

"The vehicle failed to stop and travelled into a residential estate were it collided with a parked car on Channel Road.

"The driver then collided with a traffic signal at the junction of Robson Street and Sleepers Hill in Anfield.

"A 36 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop and drug driving.

"He is currently in custody where he will be questioned by officers."
