Drug driver jailed after leading police on high-speed chase in County Durham

A drug-driver who led police on a high-speed chase and tried to flee the scene by running into allotments in County Durham has been jailed for 10 months.

Officers from Durham Constabulary shared a video showing the moment they caught Anthony Dinsdale, 30, of Langley Street, Langley Park, who failed to stop for police last November.

He drove a silver Volkswagen Golf at high speed through residential areas, before abandoning the vehicle in a dead-end and attempting to escape through nearby allotments.

Officers following in a car managed to find him and arrest him and a drugs test showed him to be under the influence of cannabis and cocaine.

He was subsequently charged with dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance, and two counts of drug driving.

After pleading guilty last month to all charges, Dinsdale appeared at Durham Crown Court this week and was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment.

He was also banned from driving for 3 years and 5 months.

Arresting officer PC Anderson said: "Dangerous driving through a residential area is a serious enough offence on its own, let alone doing so under the influence of cannabis and cocaine.

"I’d hope this sentence gives Mr Dinsdale time to reflect on his actions and sends a clear message to others that we will not take these offences lightly."
