Drug dealers caught in County Durham hotel with cocaine jailed for more than nine years

Two men have been jailed for more than nine years after police caught them in possession of cocaine in a hotel room.

Dale Leadbitter, of Newton Aycliffe and Curtis Crighton, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply when they appeared at Durham Crown Court.

Leadbitter, 25, was jailed for five years and seven months and 31-year-old Crighton was jailed for three years and seven months.

Officers enquiries led them to the men at a hotel in County Durham where they were arrested and later charged.

Judge Rachim Singh placed a confiscation order on £30,000, which was discovered by officers during a search of premises relating to Leadbitter.

Detective Constable Graeme Hopkirk, of Durham Constabulary, said: “These men had a blatant disregard for the law and hopefully their sentences will give them a chance to reflect on their actions.

“We have removed a significant quantity of drugs from the streets and the money recovered can now be put to good use in the community.

“We hope the actions of Leadbitter and Crighton sends out a message that drugs will not be tolerated within County Durham and Darlington.”
