Drug dealer jailed after being caught with £13,000 worth of ketamine at caravan park

A man who dealt in £13,000-worth of ketamine at a Fintry caravan park was this week jailed for a year and four months.

Mark Hardie had admitted a charge on indictment of being concerned in the supply of the class-B drug at a plot in Campsie Glen Holiday Park on December 16, 2019.

When the 25-year-old appeared for sentence at Stirling Sheriff Court on Wednesday, his lawyer recognised that a custodial sentence was “not just likely, but is going to be imposed”.

The defence agent described Hardie’s personal circumstances as “fairly unremarkable”.

He added however that Hardie had got involved in a cycle of drug-taking and “thought there was no other way to cope with what he was doing”.

Hardie was a single man, who was in regular contact with his children, the lawyer said, and regretted being involved in the offence.

Sheriff William Gilchrist told Hardie: “You are absolutely right to anticipate that imprisonment is inevitable given the quantity and value of drugs. There are no previous convictions for the supply of drugs, but you have an extensive record. In the past you have received a number of custodial sentences for different types of offence.

“I see you have received 28 months for assault and robbery. Imprisonment is inevitable. Dealing in drugs is a serious matter. It spreads misery.”

He sentenced Hardie, of Dumbreck, Glasgow, to 16 months’ imprisonment discounted from two years due to his guilty plea.
