Drug dealer dumped M&S bag stuffed with £10,000 of cannabis as he fled police

A drug dealer dumped an M&S carrier bag containing more than £10,000 worth of cannabis while being chased by police.

Kieran Nash, 26, was a passenger in a car which was stopped by police in Cardiff on March 29, 2018, but when approached he left the vehicle and ran away.

Police gave chase along Willowbrook Drive in St Mellons and saw the defendant carrying a Marks & Spencer bag which he threw into a garden before continuing to run and evaded capture.

A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Wednesday heard that the bag thrown by Nash, of Gelligaer Street, Cathays , was found to contain 810g of cannabis worth £10,120.

Fingerprint analysis was carried out which led police to identifying Nash who was invited to attend a voluntary interview where he gave no comment.

He later pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled Class B drug with intent to supply.

What is cannabis?

The court also heard that Nash had previous convictions for possession with intent to supply and being drunk and disorderly.

Judge Daniel Williams told the defendant that due to the fact almost two years had passed since the offence he would not be sending the defendant to prison.

He said: “You have taken advantage of the delay and improved your life in a number of aspects. I am going to give you another chance and I hope you take it Mr Nash.”

The defendant was sentenced to 26 weeks imprisonment suspended for 12 months and was ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work.
