Drug dealer caught with tub of heroin and knife after anonymous tip-off to Edinburgh cops

A drug dealer was caught with a tub of heroin and a knife after an anonymous tip-off to cops.

Lebohang Tlou was traced by officers in Edinburgh’s Haymarket area after a call about a man acting suspiciously.

Officers searched the 25-year-old and found the blade, five grammes of heroin, and nearly £600 in cash.

Tlou is from Wolverhampton in the West Midlands where dealers have frequently headed north to target the capital’s drug market over the last two decades.

He appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Thursday and pled guilty to possessing heroin with intent to supply and possession of a knife.

Fiscal depute Sarah Noon said an anonymous caller phoned the West End police station at 11.25am to report a “suspicious male”.

Officers stopped Tlou and he admitted he was carrying a knife, Ms Noon said. The blade was recovered from his trouser waistband.

The court heard a tub of brown powder, £590.16 in cash, and three mobile phones were also seized.

Ms Noon said the brown powder was later analysed and found to be five grammes of heroin with a street value of £500.

Tlou admitted possessing the drugs and knife in the city’s Grove Street on August 2 2019.

He further pled guilty to giving the false name ‘Jamal Davis’ when stopped by police officers on Melville Drive in the city’s Marchmont area on October 16 last year.

Sheriff Adrian Cottam deferred sentence on Tlou until next month for reports.
