Drug dealer caught with heroin and almost 1500 fake valium pills

A drug dealer was caught with heroin and over 1400 pills.

Derek Johnstone, of Townhead Street in Cumnock, was jailed for being concerned in the supplying of the class A drug and class C drug etizolam.

The 44-year-old was caught with the drugs after officers carried out a search at his home on March 8.

Officers uncovered five wraps of brown powder, weighing 3.3g each.

A further single wrap weighing 1.81g was also found.

And a total of 1487 tablets of etizolam were uncovered, which had a maximum potential of selling for £743.50.

Cash totalling £1,402 was also recovered.

Johnstone originally faced the charges alongside his partner Kirsty Stirling but her not guilty pleas were accepted.

Solicitor Marisa Borland said: “The tenancy he held for five years with his partner and former co-accused.

"I understand they are expecting a baby. His record is of some concern.

"Prior to finding himself in custody, he was struggling with addiction.”

Ayr Sheriff Desmond Leslie took the view that a custodial sentence of eight months was appropriate.

Johnstone admitted being concerned in the supplying of diamorphine and etizolam.

The court ordered forfeiture of the recovered £1402.55 cash.

He will serve a total of eight months behind bars, backdated from March 11.
