Police were still investigating days after a drive-by shooting caused a car crash in Portage Park, leaving a woman shot and the driver of a street sweeper in critical condition.
The only charge filed so far was against a 17-year-old male passenger of the crashed car, who faces a count of drug possession, Chicago police spokeswoman Kellie Bartoli said.
According to new details from police, three people inside a car were shot at by someone in another vehicle about 2:30 a.m. Monday in the 4000 block of North Cicero Avenue, at Six Corners.
Their car crashed into a street sweeper, causing both vehicles to become engulfed in flames.
Three people in the crashed car were hurt. A 32-year-old woman has gunshot wounds, two broken legs and a broken arm, police said.
A 20-year-old man in the car was hospitalized at Lutheran General with injuries, police said.
The 17-year-old who was later charged had contusions to his back and face, and was also hospitalized, police said.
The driver of the parked street sweeper, a 55-year-old man, was in critical condition at Illinois Masonic Medical Center with face and head injuries, police said.
The incident was still under investigation, Bartoli said.
