A Queensland drug syndicate boss whose alleged death threats forced an informant into witness protection has been spotted in New South Wales, say police, who are appealing for help finding him.
Piet Luan Ta, who faces up to 14 years in prison over a multimillion-dollar interstate drug trafficking network, was “last seen in NSW [in July] and is believed to be travelling south”, Queensland police said.
Guardian Australia revealed last month that a Brisbane man identified by name on a Queensland courts website as an informant against Ta was forced into witness protection after police revealed intelligence of the drug boss planning to have him murdered.
Police released a photo of Ta, whom they described as “Oriental in appearance, approximately 164cm tall, with black hair and brown eyes”.
They said he was wanted “in relation to failing to appear in court for high-level drug trafficking offences”.
