Drug-addled killer P-plate driver jailed

A P-plater who caused a fatal crash while affected by drugs will spend more than five years in jail. (AAP)

A drug-addled P-plate driver who barely slept for three days before killing a Melbourne woman in a multi-car smash has been jailed.

Macaulay Gray took GHB and ice before killing 43-year-old Rosemarie Kelly at Seaford in December 2019.

Three other drivers, two men and a woman, were also caught up in the crash.

Gray, now aged 22, was jailed in Victoria's Court Court on Friday for a maximum of nine years and four months.

He must serve five years and eight months before he can be considered for release on parole.

Gray was seen swerving in and out of traffic and onto the wrong side of the road for about 15 minutes before the crash.

One concerned onlooker called triple-zero, telling them: "I'm scared as f*** man, he should not be on the road".

An empty syringe was found in Gray's ute, and a zip lock bag with three tablets inside his wallet, after the crash.

Gray sat in the gutter, appearing disorientated and confused as reality sank in.

"What have I done?" he said.

"Have I hurt anybody?"

He rolled on the ground and wailed when he found out Ms Kelly was dead.

Gray previously pleaded guilty to culpable driving causing death, and three counts of conduct endangering life.

He has already spent 45 days in custody.
