Drove in Coatbridge while nearly five-and-a-half times over alcohol limit

A WOMAN who got behind the wheel in Coatbridge with almost five-and-a-half times over the legal limit of alcohol on
her breath has been banned from the road for 16 months.

Angela Reilly, 35, was caught drink-driving on Kirk Street on December 22 last year.

Fiscal depute Rosalind Walsh said: “At 10.40pm, a witness contacted the police about the possibility of a person drink-driving.

“Police attended and they detected a smell of alcohol coming from her breath.

“She was also very unsteady on her feet. At Coatbridge police station she gave a positive breath test. She was cautioned and charged and made no reply.”

Defence lawyer Simon Gilmour told the court: “It was an error of judgement on her part.”

Sheriff Petra Collins fined Reilly, of Bellshill, £300, reduced from £450 because of her early guilty plea.

She was banned from driving for 16 months and given the chance to take the drink-drivers’ rehabilitation course, which would reduce the ban to a year.

Reilly was ordered to pay the fine at a rate of £30 per month and Sheriff Collins also refused a Crown motion for Reilly’s car to be forfeited.
