Dropping off children in your pyjamas, picking up foreign TV channels

The headteacher was right to admonish parents who wear pyjamas to drop their children off at school, as it invites negative class and gender stereotyping (Ban mamas in pyjamas? Parents split over head’s strict dress code at the school gates, 28 January). Parents and students should realise that to move upwards in our society it is necessary to imitate in order to infiltrate, and it is difficult to do this in your nightclothes.

• Mary Dejevsky (We like Eurocrime fiction yet kill the facts, 27 January) will be glad to hear that the Astra satellite still exists and still broadcasts the entire output of the German public service broadcasters ARD and ZDF, together with regional variations. Every evening we watch Tagesschau (main news broadcast), together with Tagesthemen, Brisant and other topical programmes of German/European interest.
