Drop me from panel: Sudhakaran to party

KOCHI: Senior CPM leader G Sudhakaran wrote a letter to the party leadership requesting to drop him from the CPM state committee. It is learnt that he wrote letter to the party secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and the chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan stating that he did not want to continue in the state committee and requested not to consider his name for the new committee which will be appointed at the state conference being held in Ernakulam.

The letter was sent amid the speculations that Sudhakaran, who is 75, would get a concession as the party has decided to exclude those leaders aged above 75 from the state committee. The letter stated that he was not interested in continuing as a state committee member. However, sources said that the party leadership is not ready to consider his request.

The veteran leader who had won from Ambalapuzha assembly constituency three times consecutively from 2006 has been facing severe criticism since the 2021 assembly election as a group of party workers in Alappuzha alleged him of trying to defeat the current Ambalapuzha MLA H Salam in the polls. They alleged that Sudhakaran was not active in the election campaign in Alappuzha.
