Drop in sales of condoms and baby formula thanks to lockdown

Bosses at Reckitt Benckiser (RB) say they have seen a fall in some sectors, including condoms and sex products, with social distancing impacting sales, which they expect to affect baby formula sales with the birth rate expected to fall.

The comments come as RB said sales in the three months to the end of September were up 6.9% to £3.51 billion.

Hygiene grew fastest – up 12.4% to £1.49 billion. Health sales were up 6.9% to £1.22 billion but nutrition fell 1.8% to £806 million.

But the high use of cleaning products and disinfectants during the coronavirus pandemic is here to stay, according to the Dettol maker.

The company added that the pandemic has seen an increase in sales of vitamins, minerals and supplements, as customers focus on their health, and sales of air fresheners for home workers have also jumped.

RB is the company behind Dettol, Durex, Strepsils, Veet, Nurofen, Vanish, Harpic, Gavison, Finish, Lysol, Clearasil, Air Wick, Cillit Bang and Calgon as well as many other brands.
