Drones light up Montserrat Abbey in tribute to Pope Francis

The midnight display, involving 200 drones, formed Catholic icons including the Virgin of Montserrat, Pope Francis, the abbey itself, and the surrounding multi-peaked mountain.

The event was part of celebrations for the Day of the Virgin of Montserrat, observed on 26 April.

Located 64 kilometres north of Barcelona, Montserrat Abbey celebrates its millennium this year. The monastery is famed for housing some of the world’s most valuable medieval manuscripts of Gregorian chants.
