Drones and helicopters have been used to catch people breaking government lockdown rules

Drones and helicopters are being used to catch people breaking government lockdown rules, and meeting in groups.

There have already been instances in Scotland of people being punished for ignoring restrictions introduced to help halt the spread of coronavirus earlier this week.

A helicopter crew clocked four people meeting up in Pollock Park in Glasgow, and the individuals were then disciplined by officers on the ground.

Police in England have also been using the tactic, with walkers in the Lake District being watched by drone.

As reported by the Daily Record, the Scottish Government say you can travel to take exercise, but your journey should be as short as possible – and from home if possible.

A spokesperson said: "Taking exercise is important and as far as possible it should be indoors or on foot from home.

"It should be alone or with people from within the same household.

"If you have to travel to take exercise, people should keep the journey as short as possible."

A Police Scotland spokesperson added: "We are urging people to comply with the governmental restrictions."
