KOLKATA: Following instructions from Nabanna, Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) are intensifying their dengue control measures in Salt Lake, New Town and Rajarhat-Gopalpur.
BMC health officials said about 30 dengue cases have been reported across BMC areas so far. The civic authorities plan to send notices to households where mosquito larvae are found to be breeding.
"Our officers are visiting the spots from where dengue cases are getting reported. Many households are not allowing our dengue workers to enter as mosquito larvae have been found in the stagnant water in flower pots in a number of houses. Drone surveillance will also be conducted," said BMC MMIC (health) Banibrata Banerjee.
In New Town, NKDA has formed a dedicated team of door-to-door surveyors, sprayers and foggers to conduct mosquito prevention measures. "We are also collaborating with an NGO to distribute 10,000 mosquito nets within NKDA and its neighbouring areas. A meeting with Metro authorities was held requesting them to see that there is no water accumulation at project sites," said NKDA chairman Debashis Sen.
The authorities also recently released around 1.5 lakh guppy fish in New Town water bodies.
