Drone footage shows snaking queues at Bristol Covid test centre as hundreds seek vaccine

The long queues that are causing hours-long waits at a Bristol Covid test and vaccine site have been shown on drone footage from the area.

The queues have formed around the Bristol Rapid Testing Centre on Wellington Street on Tuesday (December 14) as people clamour for booster jabs and tests.

Estimates suggest as many as 1,000 people may have been at the centre from 10am this morning.

The footage taken from the scene shows queues of people snaking around the site towards the entrance to the centre.

Cabot Circus is visible in some of the shots as long lines wind around the other buildings on the site, with people in parallel lines up and down the forecourt.

Hundreds of people can be seen in the shots, waiting to access the centre.

Cars can also be seen parked nearby, in some cases rather haphazardly.

The centre is one of the few places in Bristol offering walk-in Covid booster jabs today, with people across the country having been urged by Prime Minister Boris Johnson in the last couple of days to get their booster as soon as possible.

Pictures taken earlier in the day show hundreds people waiting for their jab at the centre in St Jude's, in a queue snaking “twice around the block.”

It comes as the government announced the Omicron variant is spreading at a “phenomenal rate” as one person died from the new strain in the UK.

The scenes come as the government prepares to vote on key restrictions in the move to Plan B.

Among the new rules is a measure allowing fully-vaccinated people who have been exposed to a positive Covid case to avoid self-isolation if they take daily lateral flow tests, and receive a negative result.

It could also see the introduction of a Covid pass which would ensure that someone can enter a large venue, if they can prove they are fully vaccinated or have a negative lateral flow test.
