Shocking drone footage shows the extent of damage caused to a former care home in Gorton, after a fire ripped through the building on Sunday night.
Now thought to be the result of a deliberate arson attack, the empty building off Abbey Hey Lane has been turned into charred shell after huge flames engulfed the site. Drone videos, taken by Stephen Angus, show the extent of the damage, as parts of the ceiling appear to have completely collapsed.
The footage also shows how the fire tore through multiple stories of the building, which was once St George's care home for the elderly. The incident is thought to have broken out at around 9.30pm on Sunday evening (March 13).

Pictures taken on the night of the blaze showed huge flames lapping through the roof as smoke billowed out across the area. The Manchester Evening News also previously shared video footage of the flames taking hold of the building.

Crews from Gorton, Ashton, Phillips Park and Whitehill fire stations spent several hours tackling the fire at the detached property before extinguishing it and remained at the scene into Monday damping down and making it safe. A joint police and fire service investigation was then launched to determine the cause of the fire.
On Tuesday, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed it is believed to have been started deliberately and is being treated as arson. So far, no arrests have been made but enquiries are ongoing, the force added. Anyone with information is asked to contact police as soon as possible.
