In September of 2018 a huge fire swept through Liverpool’s Littlewoods building gutting the west wing section and leaving the clock tower horribly scorched.
Firefighters battled to control the blaze in order to save the iconic building as black smoke could be seen across the city for miles around.
The blaze swept through the site and reached temperatures of around 1,000°C. It left areas of the building in ruin with extensive damage to the roof.
Plans for a new Hollywood style TV and film studio set to be developed on the site were quickly put on hold as those involved with the redevelopment dealt with the aftermath.
Two years on and plans for Liverpool’s first high-end TV and film studios have been submitted by the council in a bid to build studios next to the iconic Littlewoods building.
The council is looking to cement Liverpool as a force in TV and film but as captured in the drone footage above, it will be no easy task.
The spectacular drone footage shared with the Liverpool Echo by aerial imagery company, Stratus Imagery shows the mammoth task awaiting developers.
The CAA approved drone operators recently got up-close and personal and shared their footage online.
The footage shows the full extent of the damage caused by the fire capturing some high quality moving images of the devastating arson attack from above at the famous site.
The planning application for the stages is subject to a public consultation but if approved the council expects to start on site in November 2020 and the sound stages to be operational by Spring 2021.
