Drogheda United v Wexford FC clash postponed after positive Covid-19 case confirmed

Drogheda United's First Division clash against Wexford FC has been postponed.

A player from Wexford has tested positive for Covid-19, and with a number of players in the squad as potential close contacts, the game is off.

The game is expected to be rescheduled in the coming weeks.

It comes after Shamrock Rovers' title party was put on hold after two positive tests saw their next three fixtures postponed.

An SSE Airtricity League statement said: "The SSE Airtricity League have postponed tonight’s First Division game between Drogheda United and Wexford FC.

"The game has been postponed due to a positive COVID-19 test returned by a Wexford FC player and the potential identification of a number of close contacts within the Wexford FC squad.

"A new date for the fixture will be announced in due course."

The First Division clubs join the growing list of sides affected by the virus in recent weeks, with St. Patrick's Athletic and Bohemian FC also confirming positive cases.

The news also comes after six players across the Wexford hurling and gaelic football teams tested positive for the deadly virus ahead of the inter-county GAA return tomorrow.
