Drogheda motorists urged to drive carefully as hay bales spill on busy dual carriageway

Motorists in Co Louth are being urged to drive with care this morning due a major hazard on a busy dual carriageway.

A HGV's load of hay bales has spilled all over the road on George's Street in Drogheda heading north and traffic is down to one lane.

AA Roadwatch said: "A truck has shed its load on George’s St in Drogheda and traffic is down to one lane approaching the Bridge of Peace coming from the Ramparts side of the town. Gardai are at the scene."

Mayor of Drogheda, Labour Councillor Paul Bell shared a photo of the hay bales strewn around the road to his Facebook page, warning motorists to take care.

He wrote: "Morning friends, drive with care, HGV has shed its load of hay bales this morning on the dual carriageway outside bus station.

"Single lane open to traffic heading north. No injuries reported."
