OK, one to file under 'idiocy' here. In July I wrote this piece in The Guardian, about how hands-free car kits were not necessarily safe for drivers in spite of the marketing. It didn't cover Bluetooth in depth, but it drew attention to a study on wired equipment and the possible false sense of safety it would offer.
Now Macworld has a story taken partly from The Scotsman which says that driving whilst listening to an iPod, or anything else with earphones, is also potentially unsafe.
Well, no kidding. The only question in my mind is whether everybody has gone completely bonkers? There's an extreme story on the Scotsman site of a young woman causing an accident by demonstrating her iPod to a friend whilst driving. Let's assume that's a minority position - please! - but accept that many people, particularly those driving on business, will want some sort of entertainment while they're on the move.
There are a couple of options, like 'put the radio on', but if you really want your music and nobody else's then stuff like this should help - there are other options on the market too, but this is the cheapest I could find at the moment.
That's a lot of distraction taken away for forty quid...
