Driving test backlogs could be fuelling rising scams against learner drivers

  • Learner drivers are being warned about a significant increase in scams offering fake driving tests and lessons.
  • TSB bank reported a 211 per cent rise in total losses from these frauds between January and August 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, with an average loss of £244.
  • Scams include paying for lessons that never materialise, offers for non-existent fast-tracked tests, and fraudulent DVSA websites.
  • Driving test backlogs are believed to be contributing to the surge in these scams, as learners seek quicker options.
  • Both TSB and the DVSA advise learners to only pay for verified services through official channels and to report any suspicious social media accounts.
