MAYFIELD West will become a hub for taxis, ride sharers and other vehicles to be sanitised from Monday.

Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Catherine Cusack announced on Friday that a vehicle sanitisation station will start operating in the suburb next week.

Six sites have already opened around the state. The stations give drivers an opportunity to ensure their vehicles are hygienic and meeting COVID-19 regulations.

Point to Point Transport Commissioner Anthony Wing said hire vehicles and community transport would be eligible to use the complimentary service once per day per vehicle.

Health, ambulance and police vehicles will also be eligible to use the service

Vehicle sanitisation includes disinfecting high-touch areas like outside and inside door handles, window controls, headrests and payment terminals," Mr Wing said.

The vehicle sanitisation service is an additional measure which will provide a high standard of vehicle cleanliness for drivers and passengers.

The Channel Road station will open from 7am to 7pm from Monday on weekdays and 8am and 5pm on Saturdays.
