Driving Ireland: Dublin driver's crucial slip up that led to Gardai arresting them for drug influence

A drug driver was arrested by Gardai after a crucial slip up while driving under the influence.

Terenure Roads Policing Unit stopped the driver after they spotted the person behind the wheel holding their mobile phone to their ear while driving.

The driver was pulled over and subsequently tested for drugs as a result.

Although they tested negative for cocaine, opiates and benzos, the driver did come up positive for having traces of cannabis in their system.

A Garda spokesperson said: "Terenure Roads Policing Unit stopped driver of vehicle while holding a mobile phone while driving."

They added: "Driver then arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. Proceedings to follow."
