Driving fines must fit crime

A recent crash on an elevated expressway that caused one death and three injuries, including a police officer, is a tragic incident that should and could have been avoided.

Driver Nutchanat Promna, in an attempt to beat traffic on the inbound Chalongrat Expressway, drove her vehicle onto the hard shoulder and ended up smashing into the rear of a parked broken down van that was being repaired in the lane.

The impact knocked the owner of the van, who was standing outside the vehicle, over a safety wall and she plunged to her death onto the road below. Two other people, who were passengers in the van, and a policeman trying to repair the vehicle, were injured.
