New sets of speed limits are being proposed across Dublin in a response to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
Slashed speed limits of 30km/h are hoped to be introduced for residential streets across the city according to a report from Dublin City Council officials.
The proposal is part of a wider mobility plan by DCC which will cater for social distancing as restrictions continue to ease and more pedestrians and cyclists return to the road.
Some higher limits would remain on routes but the majority would adopt the new 30km/h signs such as:
- Clontarf Road
- Malahide Road,
- Dorset St,
- North Circular Road
- South Circular Road
- Harolds Cross Road
- Rathmines Road
Kylemore Road and Stillorgan Road currently with 60km/h speed limits would be reduced to 50km/h with Howth Road, Amiens Street and Crumlin Road keeping their 50km/h limits also.
Senior Executive Engineer, Helen Smirnova said: "The measures developed in response to a new and unprecedented emergency caused by the Covid-19 pandemic are being implemented on a temporary/emergency basis to respond to the urgent and immediate needs of the city."
The plan will be debated by councillors at a Transport Committee before going to a full council meeting with the new laws hoping to come into force by the end of 2020.
