Drivers warned to take precautions heading out in the spring

HAYFEVER sufferers and other motorists thinking of heading out for a spring spin as lockdown lifts are being reminded of the need to take precautions.

Drivers who significantly suffer from itchy eyes, sneezing, blocked noses or breathing difficulties are being urged check out the daily pollen forecast.

Sun glare can also be a serious cause of collisions on the road and motorists need to ensure their windscreens are clean so they can see more clearly.

Milder weather will also bring out more cyclists, motorbikes, playing children, pedestrians and pets, which provides extra challenges, especially when navigating built-up areas.

Breakdown group Green Flag is advising hayfever sufferers to keep car windows shut and check out their air con settings when the pollen count is high.

Having sunglasses with you will help you deal with any glare from brighter skies, while keeping an eye on speed will enable you to slow down in time to avoid any potential hazard.

Green Flag commercial boss Mark Newberry said: “We want to ensure all drivers feel prepared as they plan to set out on the road again.

“As the weather gets milder, the days get longer and lockdown continues to ease, there will be more people on the roads, so please take care as you navigate the extra road users.

“Travel safe, look out for each other and enjoy the spring.”
