Drivers warned to avoid M8 after 'emergency incident' causes massive queues

Motorists are urged to avoid the M8 in West Lothian after a road traffic incident and oil spill this morning.

The incident occurred between junction 3 at Bathgate and Livingston on the M8 motorway.

Road users are facing significant delays and reporting long queues as emergency services attempt to clear up the scene.

Edinburgh Live has contacted Police Scotland but Traffic Scotland say that emergency services are already at the scene.

A spokesperson for Traffic Scotland said online: “M8 blocked westbound at J3A Bathgate due to an RTC and oil spill.

“Traffic at a stand on approach. Emergency services on scene. Traffic also slowing eastbound.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 11.15am on Monday, 20 September, 2021, police were called to a report of a four vehicle road crash on the M8 westbound near to junction 3A at Livingston.

“Emergency services are in attendance and the road is currently closed.

“There are no reports on injuries at this stage.”
