Drivers warned of overnight road closures on motorway

Four overnight closures are planned on the northbound M9 in West Lothian next month.

The work is being undertaken near Linlithgow Loch to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland to resurface almost 1.2km of carriageway in a £230,000 project designed to create smoother and safer journeys for motorists.

To keep roadworkers and motorists safe during these works, the northbound M9 will be closed between Junctions 3 and 4 from 7.30pm until 6am on the nights of October 5, 6, 7 and 8.

A diversion route for northbound traffic will be signposted from M9 Junction 3 Burghmuir to M9 Junction 5 Cadgers Brae, via the A904 and A905. This diversion will add an estimated 10 minutes and 2.1 miles to affected journeys.

The southbound carriageway will remain open. All traffic management will be removed outwith working hours and access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government guidance, are in place to protect teams and ensure they remain safe on site.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to make them aware of the plans and share information about the project in advance.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East network manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will help to address the defects on this section of the M9 and will greatly improve the surface for motorists.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience while we carry out this project. We’ll do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”

Real time journey information is available from Traffic Scotland on www.trafficscotland.org, twitter at @trafficscotland or the new mobile site my.trafficscotland.org.
