Drivers warned not to pick up hitchhikers as police carry out manhunt for suspect after serious assault

Police are warning drivers not to pick up hitchhikers in Lampeter as they hunt a suspect in connection with a serious assault.

Road checks are also being conducted along the A485, south of Llangeitho, in connection with the search. Dyfed-Powys Police said that there was a large police presence in the Forest Road area of Lampeter as officers searched for a male suspect.

Posts on social media also suggest that armed police and a helicopter have been spotted in Lampeter this evening. Officers have yet to confirm this.

Police said the man they were searching for in connection with the assault was thought to be wearing a khaki coat, and dark green trousers. They said that the man could attempt to hitchhike, and members of the public should be aware.

A tweet from the force said: "There's a large police presence in the Forest Road area as we search for a suspect in connection to a serious assault. The man could attempt to hitchhike, and members of the public are being warned not to stop for anyone on the side of the road at this time."

Police are urging the public not to approach this man if spotted but to report it to police by calling 999. The incident is ongoing.
