Drivers urged to take caution after car smashes into tram in Salford

Drivers are being urged to take caution after a car smashed into a tram in Salford.

Services on the Eccles line were disrupted last night (Monday) after a car hit a tram near the Exchange Quay stop.

A picture taken at the scene shows the badly damaged car parked over the tram tracks.

Damage was also caused to the tram.

No injuries were reported after the crash.

Bosses at Transport for Greater Manchester are urging drivers to be 'tram aware' when driving near the Metrolink network.

"While the number of collisions remains small compared to the number of trips made each day on our roads, any incident involving a tram has the potential to cause serious injury, damage to vehicles and delays to our services and customers", a spokesperson said.

"We want to reiterate that motorists should remain vigilant and take extra care when driving close to the tram network."
