Man airlifted to hospital after three-vehicle crash during rush hour closes M9 motorway

A man has been airlifted to hospital following a crash on the M9 which closed the motorway.

The accident took place shortly after 7am on Tuesday near the junction with the M876 to the north of Falkirk.

Police said the M876 was also affected and there are heavy queues stretching back along the motorway.

Both lanes of the M9 heading east are cosed between Junctions 8 and 6. It's understood three vehicles are involved in the crash.

The Daily Record reports a man has been taken to Queen Elizabeth hospital by air ambulance. His condition is not currently known.

Police in Falkirk said: "Police Scotland are dealing with a road traffic collision on the M9 eastbound towards Edinburgh after the junction for M876. M9 eastbound between Junctions 6 and 8 CLOSED.

"Further closure M876 at junction 7 leading to M9. Drivers are asked to avoid the area meantime."
