Drivers left confused as Isle of Skye sign appears more than 140 miles away

DRIVERS have been left baffled by a road sign welcoming them to Skye that is more than 140 miles away on the mainland.

The sign, it turns out, had been put up for Hollywood star Jamie Dornan's new film which was being shot in Kylesku in Sutherland.

The Kylesku Bridge has been used as a double for the Skye Bridge for the Netflix production The Undertow.

Hugh Morrison, Highland councillor, said:"It was really confusing for tourists in particular. They must have thought they had taken the wrong turn and were not driving on the Scottish mainland but the Isle of Skye.

"It was more like 50 shades of wrong way! It was all because Jamie Dornan was filming. But I just wish we had the same council budget allocation as Skye gets!"

Dornan - who became well known for playing Christian Gray in 50 Shades of Gray - is playing identical twins Adam and Lee in the Netflix drama.

Suffocating in a loveless marriage to Adam, Nicola - played by Mackenzie Davis - sees her life take a dramatic turn when Adam's long-estranged identical twin brother Lee comes crashing back into her life, and their tangled romantic past threatens to destroy the present.

A split-second decision and a terrible accident drives Nicola to protect her children, and over the course of one week, Lee and Nicola are forced together, struggling to maintain a web of secrets and lies.

Dornan was spotted at Kylesku on Thursday dressed as a fisherman.

Also taking part in the shoot was Scottish actor Gary Lewis, best known for his roles in films such as Billy Elliot, Joyeux No l, Gangs of New York and Eragon as well as major roles in the television docudrama Supervolcano and the Starz series Outlander.

Crime noir series The Undertow began filming in nearby Kinlochbervie last month and shooting will take place on the Isle of Mull - locations "chosen for their breath-taking beauty," say producers.

It is to be released next year and is based on The Nordisk Film Production AS television series, Twin.
