Drivers killed in fiery two-car crash that cut power to dozens of Victorian homes

Police said the force of the crash pushed the cars into nearby trees, sparking a "significant fire".

A fiery collision between two cars on Victoria's Bellarine Peninsula has killed both drivers and resulted in a power outage to homes near the scene of the crash.

The crash occurred about 10:30pm last night at the intersection of Portarlington-Queenscliff Road and Anderson Road in Mannerim.

Sergeant Craig Stanton said the force of the collision sent the two cars into nearby trees, where they burst into flames.

"[The cars] have ended up in the trees to the north-east of the intersection, which resulted in a significant fire, which had to be extinguished by a number of local CFA units," he said.

He urged the community to be patient as investigators determined the cause of the crash and cleared the burnt wreckage of the cars.

"We're going to have extensive roadblocks in the Mannerim area for a considerable amount of time, until the area's been processed and cleared," he said.

About 70 Powercor customers were still without power at 8:15am, according to the company's website.

No passengers were found at the scene, Victoria Police said in a statement.
