Drivers in hospital as van and police car crash on main road

The drivers of a van and police car are in hospital after crashing on a main road in Litherland.

Police were called to Gorsey Lane, Litherland, at around 3.30pm after a police car collided with a van whilst on the way to an incident.

Traffic has been stopped in both directions on Gorsey Lane with the van and police car sustaining considerable damage.

The two drivers involved are believed to have minor injuries and were taken to hospital as a precaution following the crash.

The white van appears to have collided with a sign post following the initial collision with the police car.

Gorsey Lane is currently blocked and motorists are advised to avoid the area while the vehicles are recovered.

In a statement shared with the ECHO, a spokeswoman for Merseyside Police said: "At around 3.30pm today (Wednesday 7 July) we received a report of a road traffic collision involving a police vehicle and a van on Gorsey Lane, Litherland.

"The police vehicle was en route to a separate incident when the collision occurred.

"The drivers of both vehicles are believed to have sustained minor injuries and have attended hospital as a precaution."

Gorsey Lane is currently blocked and motorists are advised to avoid the area while the vehicles are recovered.
