Drivers hit with parking fines as region's beauty spots packed out amid sunny weather

Drivers have been hit with parking fines as people flocked to the region's beauty spots to make the most of the sunshine.

Scores of cars lined the road up to Dovestone Reservoir, in Oldham, on Sunday afternoon (February 28).

Pictures showed a traffic officer handing out parking tickets to several cars parked on the pavement near to the popular beauty spot.

Visitors have flocked to the reservoir on numerous occasions during lockdown, despite repeated warnings asking people to 'stay local' and concerns over social distancing.

As the sun made a rare appearance this weekend after a long, cold and wet winter, families and walkers took the opportunity to enjoy the weather with a trip out.

Rows of vehicles could also be seen parked along both sides of Lumb Carr Road, near Holcombe Hill in Ramsbottom.

The beauty spot is popular among walkers and boasts panoramic views across Greater Manchester and beyond.

Under current government guidance, people are only allowed to leave their homes for a limited number of reasons.

People can go out to exercise, which can be with up to one other person from outside their household or bubble.

The exercise should ideally be limited to once per day, and guidance is that people should try to do this locally.
