Drivers heading to Manchester Airport face delays due to roadworks

Drivers heading to and from Manchester Airport may face major disruption over the next two months due to roadworks on the M56.

There will be 'some road closures and lane reductions' on the network, airport bosses say.

"We would ask all those travelling to Manchester Airport to allow an additional 20 minutes for their journey.

"Where relevant, diversion signage will be in place to direct our guests," the Manchester Airport website says.

The roadworks began on January 6. They are due to finish on March 2.

There will be delays on the M56 between junction 4 and junction 6.

It will also affect traffic on Ringway Road and Thorley Lane.

Plans are in place to transform another section of the M56, between junction 6 and 8, into a smart motorway.

Highways England are holding two public information events before construction work begins in the Spring.

Traffic bosses will close the motorway between junction 6 and 8 overnight for 'advance vegetation clearance' in the next few months.

Highways England have not announced a start date for the overnight closures.

The public information event will be held this Friday (January 17) between 2pm and 5pm at the Manchester Airport Marriott Hotel, Hale Road, Hale Barns, WA15 8XW.

Another event will be held on Saturday (January 18) between 10am and 3pm at St Peter’s Assembly Rooms, 134 Cecil Road, Hale, Altrincham, WA15 9NU.
